Flying V named Outstanding Emerging Theatre Company by Helen Hayes Awards

Bethesda, MD. January 27 – Flying V will be given the John Aniello Award for Outstanding Emerging Theatre Company, the Helen Hayes Awards announced Monday. The award will be presented at the 27th annual Helen Hayes Awards ceremony on Monday, April 6.

“We are excited to be recognized by theatreWashington for our work over the last four years to bring vibrant, original work and offbeat contemporary plays to our theatre community,”  said Jason Schlafstein, producing artistic director at Flying V. “It is an honor to be listed as an Aniello award winner and join a tremendous list of previous recipients.”

The John Aniello award for Outstanding Emerging Theatre Company recognizes theatre companies that are just getting started, yet have already produced a body of work that is noteworthy and compelling and promises to become an important addition to our cultural landscape. Flying V is proud to be a part of our region’s dynamic landscape and will continue to make the kind of theatre that inspires the audience to go out and have an adventure of their own.

Flying V is made up of a core of multi-disciplinary theatre practitioners committed to productions of engaging, high impact theatricality and fearless content, several of whom were also listed as nominees.  Flying V would like to congratulate Company Members DOUG WILDER and MAGGIE ERWIN, Advisory Board Members LEE LIEBESKIND and MICHAEL BOBBITT, Lobster Alice Cast Member DANIEL COREY, Pirate Laureate and the King of the Sea Cast Members MATT McGEE and BRADLEY FOSTER SMITH, and You, or Whatever I Can Get Costume Designer JEN BEVAN.

Previous recipients of the John Aniello Award include Pointless Theatre Company, Dizzy Miss Lizzie’s Roadside Revue, Faction of Fools Theatre Company, No Rules Theatre Company; Factory 449,1st Stage, Constellation Theatre Company and Taffety Punk Theatre Company.

Flying V is now in rehearsal for “The Pirate Laureate and the King of the Sea“, a sequel to the 2013 production of “The Pirate Laureate of Port Town“, written by company member, Zachary Fernebok and runs Feb. 12 – March 1.
