We’re Gonna Die

May – June 2019

Mortality may be the thing that binds us all together, but why be morbid when we can party instead? Join Flying V as we bring celebrated playwright Young Jean Lee’s look at living life with death on the horizon to the stage! We’re Gonna Die is directed by Josh Sobel, whose Chicago production of the show drew critical acclaim and was picked up to run at Steppenwolf. Flying V Company Member and fan favorite Farrell Parker (You, or Whatever I Can Get) fronts a live band in this mash-up performance that combines elements of a storytelling session, existential stand up routine, and rock concert to explore real-life experiences of facing down our inevitable demise.

There’s a different Opening Act each week to set the table – musicians to magicians, stand up comics to storytellers. The result is a life- affirming show that explores the ways we’re in this together even in our most isolating moments, and the one thing we all have in common: We’re Gonna Die.

ABOUT THE OPENING ACTS

Zia Hassan is a storytelling singer-songwriter who tries to capture earthly moments from a cosmic vantage point. His on-stage stories open small universes, beckoning new listeners to enter his strange and loveable world. Zia has worked with Flying V for the past year to combine his music with another passion of his, magic, into a one man show called THE VERY FABRIC OF REALITY.

Eugene Fertelmeyster will be performing some of his work from GROVER and I DRESS IN DRUGS. GROVER marries the spare, melancholic folk of artists like Gregory Alan Isakov and Keaton Henson with the driving, anthemic rock of bands like Frightened Rabbit and Snow Patrol. I DRESS IN DRUGS is a musical memoir of clothing, self-loathing, and all the other monsters in the walk-in closet of a lifelong misfit.

Wendy Wroblewski is a stand-up comedian from Gaithersburg, Maryland. A regular at the DC Improv, she performs comedy all over the Washington, DC area. She was a guest on the Boston Comedy Festival, the Cape Fear Comedy Festival, SF Sketchfest, the Underground Comedy Festival, and the DC stop of the Betches of Comedy tour. You may have heard her voice on Sirius XM as the live on-air host of Comedy Central Radio Live.

Rachel Felstein is an award winning composer and lyricist and has cowritten two musicals. Bombshell Baby!: A WW2 Musical (cowritten with Christiana Cole) and wRETCH – the final concert, collaborating with writer/performance artist Pandora Scooter. Rachel is currently writing original songs for an upcoming music project and solo show, Rachel fell.

Rachel Gleischman is a DC based storyteller that has performed for both Story District and The RISK! Podcast. A lot of her work is very funny and based upon her own history.
