Play Submissions

Flying V is dedicated to the development of vibrant original work that inspires our artists and audiences to seek out their own adventures. By blending pop culture and indie theatre, we create new and unexpected ways of storytelling to keep our artists and audiences excited about the world around them. We want our work to boldly and imaginatively reflect the world around us so we can dream more deeply about our future. We’re constantly on the lookout for scripts and writers whose sensibilities match our own. One of our goals is to celebrate and uplift DMV playwrights but we gladly accept submissions from playwrights regardless of location.

In order to consider scripts that fall within our aesthetic, we ask that you submit

  • a 10-page excerpt,
  • a brief synopsis (including context for the excerpt if it is not the opening),
  • a sentence or two about how your play fits with Flying V’s mission and aesthetic, and
  • the full script.

Please send these materials to our literary manager Susanna Pretzer (susanna@flyingvtheatre.com).

Since we are a small company, it can take several months to fully consider the scripts we receive. We consider scripts with our current needs in mind and respond accordingly, but also track all submissions in our database for the future. We often work with writers through commissions and development processes, so we’re excited to discover writers as well as scripts to consider for the variety of opportunities that arise.
